Sickle cell disease is a serious, inherited, lifelong condition that affects most countries in the African region. It is associated with a very high rate of mortality of about 50-90% & lifelong morbidity. In some areas of sub-Saharan Africa, up to 2% of all children are born SCD.
Adolescents with sickle cell disease have the highest rate of morbidity as they struggle to manage their condition through early recognition of signs & symptoms, when to seek medical care & in practicing routine selfcare behaviours.
Welcome to #ImplementationThursdays!!! Last week, we discussed a bit about what #ImpSci is and what it can do to improve uptake of #EBP. This week, I want to focus on implementation strategies - things that you do to change something in your context and facilitate implementation.
Usually, when you do #ImpSci work, you begin by examining what in your target context influences implementation and whether it is acting as a barrier or a facilitator. Identifying barriers to implementation is important because these are the things that you want to change.
And the way to change them, eliminate them, is by using implementation strategies: strategies that address barriers and enhance the adoption of a particular program. Here is a nice summary by @ImpSciUW

Reflecting on the week.... Not sure why policing is so obsessed with the outcome when identifying risk, ie risk of exploitation, slavery, suicide - the factors, such as trauma, which put people at heightened risk of one adverse outcome,may also put them at risk of another .thread
I understand that policing must operate within laws when understanding the outcome, clearly, ie is this person a victim of a crime, so we understand the investigative skills needed but, to be honest if there is a crime is sometimes lost.
We need a clearer understanding of risk factors but one where the outcome matters less than the context. What happens otherwise is we have one assessment saying this is X risk for abuse but another for X for domestic abuse and X exploitation etc

According to the @WHO, almost all maternal deaths during pregnancy, delivery or within 42 days of childbirth occur in low-resource settings, and most could have been prevented.
Cameroon is one of the countries with the highest maternal and neonatal mortality rates. Dr Valery Nji implemented evidence-based strategies to improve the quality of care during labour in order to reduce maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.

I'm sorry to hurt your feelings but teaching spelling is not "unnecessary", "useless", or "outdated". Let me tell you why! #spellingmatters #EBP #ELAchat
1/ Think about the role that spelling plays in our daily life. Notes, homework, grocery lists, texting, tweeting, medical forms, job applications etc. Spelling instruction must be part of the curriculum so that no student feels incompetent and embarrassed.
2/ And by 'spelling instruction', I don't mean endless lists of words to memorize. This is a disservice to the richness and beauty of the English language and every language. I mean instruction that is explicit and systematic.
