1/25. Today is the ninth day of the #BonnClimateConference (#SB58) and it saw the continuation of discussions on the #SantiagoNetwork for #LossAndDamage, a number of excellent side events, and importantly the adoption of the agenda. Here are some of our highlights!🧵 
2/25. This morning kicked off with three #LossAndDamage side events happening at the same time! Sadly we could not get to them all, but the good news is that there are webcasts with which to revisit them.

1/6. At the 2023 #BonnClimateConference (#SB58) @harjeet11 of @CANIntl explains why the issue of corruption must not be used as an excuse to delay #ClimateFinance including the filling of the #LossAndDamage Fund agreed at #COP27.🧵

1/38. Today is the eighth day of the #BonnClimateConference (#SB58) and it saw the closing plenary of the Technical Dialogue of the #GST, discussions on the #SantiagoNetwork, the continuation of the #NCQG’s 6th Technical Expert Dialogue and the first stocktaking plenary. 🧵
2/38. Today also saw a focus on #HumanRights with a number of side events and an action drawing attention to the key message that “there can be no #ClimateJustice without #HumanRights”.

3/30. Steffen Bauer of @IDOS_research: “#LossAndDamage has become a reality even only at 1.1°C degree of heating. It puts lives and livelihoods at risk today…Every increment of warming that we can avoid makes a difference.”

2/13. The #AR6 Synthesis Report and it's Summary for Policymakers will condense all of the scientific evidence from the reports of the @IPCC_CH working group's and all special reports published between 2018 and 2022.

1/4 The Net-Zero Standard stated that companies must decrease their emissions, but they should also remove the residual emissions and go beyond value chain mitigation.
2/4 Companies need to undertake actions or make investments that support climate mitigation outside of their value chains, especially those that generate additional co-benefits for people and nature.

1/8 Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) is a system used to de-risk carbon forward contracts by providing assurance that the carbon emissions reductions claimed by a project are accurate and reliable.
2/8 MRV systems help ensure the quality of carbon offset projects by providing a standardised and transparent way to measure, report, and verify the emissions reductions generated by a project.

I argue, "Despite alarming evidence about the pace of cc, #COP27 failed to raise mitigation ambition. While the 1.5°C limit was salvaged in the end, the lack of consensus on fossil fuel phase-down/phase-out scuttled the possibility of meaningful action in the coming years." 2/8
Not only are #industrialized countries' mitigation commitments grossly insufficient to meet the 1.5°C limit, their efforts to sidestep their pre-2020 commitments, Paris decisions & delink developing countries' mitigation efforts from #climatefinance dilute #equity. 3/8

2/18. 📢GOOD NEWS: #COP27 has established a #LossAndDamage fund! Following courageous and consistent championing for 30+ years by countries on the frontlines of the #ClimateCrisis. This is a historic moment that sets us on a pathway to #ClimateJustice.
3/18. During this time, climate-vulnerable countries were supported by the tireless efforts of #CivilSociety who have and will continue to demand that polluters #PayUp4LossAndDamage. We’ve put our heart and soul into this for decades now and we are not stopping anytime soon!

The next major development came at 10.30 with this standup by @TimmermansEU expressing confidence that a compromise on #LossAndDamage was coming.

1/25.📜It’s day twelve of #COP27 and here is your daily #LossAndDamage focused thread. The intense negotiations on “funding arrangements" continue today after the release of a new text which contained a set of three options for a decision on a fund to address #LossAndDamage. 🧵
2/25. As summarised by @YebSano of @GreenpeaceSEA during @CANInt press conference these options equate to: “Option 1, we have a fund here. Option 2, we have a fund next year, Option 3, we don't have a fund, let's talk some more.”
3/25. However, it is very important to note — as we did earlier in an extensive thread— that “option number 1” is not in line with the G77 and China’s current proposal for an operating entity (be it a fund or facility) under the financial mechanism of the @UNFCCC.

2/18. On the 20th of September, #Denmark🇩🇰 pledged €13m for #LossAndDamage, a package which includes finance for the #GlobalShield Against Climate Risk, support for CSOs to do projects on the ground, and some other money that is yet to be allocated for a specific use.
3/18. Crucially, all of this money is new and on top of #Denmark’s 🇩🇰 0.7% commitment to ODA, therefore not a diversion of cash from other vital #ClimateFinance projects.

2/4: This morning’s event explored the state & future of climate financing in Egypt. HE Dr. Yasmine Fouad opened with a keynote speech discussing the strong level of cooperation and long term partnerships between the Egyptian government and the country’s national banks.
3/4: Dr. Fouad thanked the National Bank of Egypt, whose Chairman Mr. Hisham Oksasha attended & later spoke, for NBE's role in facilitating mitigation projects in #Egypt. The minister notes renewable energy projects as bankable, & called for expansion into food & water projects.

2/7: #COP27Gender Day closes with a ceremony hosted by Dr. Maya Morsi and HE Dr. Yasmine Fouad. The #women invited a #student, Nevine Ghazi, on stage to share her perspectives on #climatechange and #youth in #Africa.
3/7: Ms. Ghazi advocates for #climateeducation saying, “I learned about the #SDGs & The #ParisAgreement in university. I instantly became aware of #climatechange and our needs. More importantly, I was able to apply my knowledge and continue to learn.
