This week marks a year since the House passed @WhipClyburn’s bill to fix this deadly gap, called the #CharlestonLoophole.
This loophole is no small gap. In 2016-17 alone, it let +9,000 prohibited buyers obtain firearms.

In 2015, the Charleston loophole in our gun safety laws allowed a self-proclaimed white supremacist to buy a gun that he then used to kill 9 black parishioners at a Bible study—despite a record of illegal drug possession that should have disqualified his purchase.
In 2016, the Charleston loophole meant that 4,170 guns were sold to people with criminal records, mental illnesses, or other circumstances which should have prevented them from being able to buy a gun—because FBI background checks weren’t completed in a three day window.
It’s time to close the #CharlestonLoophole. That’s why I’m supporting a commonsense bill sponsored by @WhipClyburn that will extend the waiting period for firearm purchases to 10 days, to ensure that guns don’t end up in the wrong hands.
