In the wake of the second wave of COVID-19 in Ogun State, the State Government held a meeting today with stakeholders on cautionary measures to take.
We will adopt the measures we took in its emergence, but this will remove curfew on movement and retain social gathering restrictions and hygiene measures.
Schools will remain closed until 18th January, 2021, while all recreational centres will be shut indefinitely. Civil servants will proceed on Christmas and New Year holiday from tomorrow, Thursday, 24th December and resume on 4th January, 2021.

In line with my earlier announcement, we have today inaugurated the State Judicial Panel of Investigation led by Hon. Justice Solomon Olugbemi (rtd), according to the resolutions of the the National Economic Council, NEC meeting of 15th October.
The setting up of this Panel, as well as a support fund, committee, office, forensic lab, and online complaints portal, is a demonstration of our Administration's commitment to true democracy and fundamental human rights.

I have received with serious concern, news of the developments in the protests in the Sango axis of Ogun State over the poor condition of the Federal Roads in the vital area: Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway, Ota-Idiroko, and Sango-Oju Ore roads.

At the event held in Abeokuta in commemoration of the 2020 World Teachers Day, I felicitated all teachers in Ogun State, especially through the NUT, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools & other Unions & Associations who have consistently protected the interest of teachers.
Towards encouraging outstanding service, I also presented on behalf of the Ogun State Government, house and cash awards to three teachers in different categories.
Mrs Mary Adeyemi of St. Paul's School II (Best Teacher, Primary Category) received a N2m cash prize; Mr Odegboka Ayodele (Junior Secondary) received a two-bedroom bungalow in Prince Court Estate; while Mr Adewale Abayomi (Senior Secondary) received N2.5m.

At the State Executive Council Meeting yesterday, we approved construction of three roads in the State. These are the 4.65km Akute-Denro-Ishasi and 2.3km Olusegun Osoba Twiney roads in Ogun Central. The third is the 2.3km 6-lane Molipa Expressway in Ogun East.
Since the goal is to ensure safe road travel for the people, construction works will begin immediately and subsequently extend to other roads in need of similar attention.

Today, schools resumed physical classes across Ogun State, as the economy recovers from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We as a Government are doing everything right, including workers' welfare, to return Ogun State to its enviable place of economic prosperity.

As part of plans to make potable water available to our people, we have released counterpart funds for the rehabilitation & construction of 51 water facilities in 13 locations across Ogun West Senatorial District under the Programme for Expanded Water Supply Sanitation & Hygiene.
30 million Naira has been released for the implementation of the Programme in Yewa North LGA, while 48 million Naira out of the total 96 million has been approved for the upgrading of solar-powered boreholes in 36 locations across Ado-Odo/Ota LGA.
The pilot phase of the project will be administered by the Rural Water and Sanitation Agency, RUWATSAN through a Direct Labour-Assisted Approach, so that as we deliver water, the employable local population will benefit simultaneously.

The Committee was set up in July, 2019 to re-evaluate projects awarded 2009-2019 towards identifying significant ones, conformity with due process, and contingency for continuity.
This is along the lines of the continuum ideology guiding our steady and intensified completion and utility-driven conversion of inherited projects that have direct line of benefits to the good people of Ogun State.

The safety of road users as well as the economic significance of our key roads is crucial. This also brings attention to the Agbara-Lusada-Atan Road, whose poor condition is a red flag for Ogun State's industrial prosperity but which we are also in the process of taking over.

Earlier today, I was at the Panseke-Adigbe Road to inspect its ongoing reconstruction project, where site engineers are now laying asphalt amongst other works.
Though not awarded by this Government, it is a project funded by our Administration for the primary reason of taxpayers' welfare, especially as it forms a major part of the State's entry points.
Other road projects ongoing on Owode-Ilaro, Ijebu Ode-Epe, Sagamu, Lafenwa-Rounda, Abeokuta-Interchange-Sagamu are pointers to our readiness to develop road infrastructure as a priority.
It has become necessary, as a precautionary move, for me to urge the motoring public using the Sagamu-Interchange-Abeokuta Road as well as others currently being constructed by our Administration, to drive carefully on these roads.
Engineers working on these roads would usually seal off one of two dualised lanes, so that as work continues on one, traffic flow may be managed on the other.
This warrants a strict “no parking” policy on the open lane on which motorists are strongly advised not to overtake other vehicles.

When I received Mrs Ulla Mueller, Country Representative (Nigeria) of the United Nations Population Fund and the entire @UNFPA team in my office just now, I disclosed that our Government has approved the payment of our counterpart funding for the year 2020 to the Agency.
This will be the first payment in the last five years, despite the continued support we have continued to receive from the Agency in the areas of family planning; maternal health; response to gender based violence; population dynamics and education.
Our Government prioritises population and gender equality, so we have taken serious steps towards strengthening our relevant laws and agencies.
