First, this is NOT a critique of the study (currently a pre-print).
Researchers at @MethodistHosp who did this provided a VERY valuable piece of info and are not making any inappropriate claims. Great work!
It's just that it's easy for public/media to misinterpret results!

Paper reports on a total of 1313 #OmicronVariant cases in the Houston, TX area.
See table below:
~49% of cases in those not vaccinated (0 or 1 does)
~51% are #BREAKTHROUGHS.
Of those #Breakthrough cases,
535 cases w/ 2 #vaccine doses
140 cases w/ 3 doses (i.e., booster)

#HCWs were vaccinated earliest in India, with majority completing their second dose of AZ as early as April 2021. (That's >35 weeks since 2nd dose)
They currently face greatest exposure risk as noted in many large outbreaks in hospitals and affect delivery of healthcare.

At-risk population were vaccinated next in India, and so were the elderly. Vaccine efficacy has shown to have more profound immune waning in elderly individuals.
These populations are an urgent priority, to prevent severe disease & death (The 2x dose still does that well).

It's #SARSCoV2 #Omicron time! We have some hopefully significant findings on neutralising antibodies (nAbs) in the 70-89 age group, a group who are at high-risk from #COVID19 medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
The @vGlycoproteins team, including @pizza_regret and @The1stNazerick (joint 1st authors) have looked at neutralisation of >20 different #SARSCoV2 Spike proteins from across the globe🌏🌍🌎!

Getting to the last figure first, of course #Omicron. At 3 and 20-weeks post 2nd dose the nAb response to Omicron is pretty much non-existent. However, at 4 weeks post 3rd dose (aka #BoosterJab) all people had detectable neutralising antibodies, which is good news 🙏👍
Some great news about vaccine uptake. Amidst all the focus on #BoosterJab, thousands of people have also come forward for their 1st and 2nd jabs. Around 90% of over 12s have had 1st dose and ~82% of over 12s have now had both doses. #NHSheroes bbc.co.uk/news/health-59…
But here's the thing: ~10.2% of over-12s have yet to have any vaccine. One year on with #CovidVaccines and there is still *no national trusted website* which tackles FAQs on vaccines. Fantastic examples of outreach by dedicated NHS staff, but govt needs to address misinformation
And let's not forget children in our race to get the public vaccinated. Despite millions of 5-11yr olds in the US, Europe and elsewhere already protected with 1 #covidvaccine, the UK has yet to agree on rollout. And up to 19 Dec, fewer than half of 12-15yos had received one dose.
