Happy 40th birthday to New Order's Blue Monday, which was released on this day in 1983. Here's a celebratory thread, starting with a live version filmed for Switch that year (THREAD 1 of 12)
It went on to be the biggest selling 12” single of all time. Legend has it that Peter Saville’s iconic die-cut floppy disc sleeve meant Factory Records lost money on every copy, but this original design was quickly changed for a less expensive version (THREAD 2 of 12 inches)

#BlueMonday was invented by PR firm Porter Novelli in 2006 to help their client Sky Travel flog holidays on our January salaries. They shopped it around before a part-time tutor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, attached to Cardiff University, put his name to it.

... et pouvait donc vaguement lâcher le mot « university of trucmuche » pour donner du crédit à une pseudo « formule scientifique » qui définirait le jour le + triste. Le type qui a cautionné cette formule a avoué depuis que c’était de la merde en boîte.
