🚨 #BestOf2021 🚨

It’s simple. Here are my favorite releases. I’ve broken out by sub-genre and kept it to the cream of the crop. This is Top Gun. Best of the best.

“Miscellaneous”

Those releases that don’t neatly fit a category are often the most interesting. #Mehenet #FuegoEterno #Dakhma #Empyrium #Baazlvaat

Baazlvaat was clearly the discovery of the year. Super raw production with some ingenious songwriting spanning styles

#Doom

All flavors of doom here from Stoner to Sabbathian. #Wheel & #Monolord bringing actual songs with concrete riffs, #MethadoneSkies with post rock psych, and #Wedge & #IndicaBlues stoning the place up. Indica brought together all the above thru a desert filter

This is more than a #band, this is a #spiritual #movement; and we are in the midst, of a spiritual #war--as we've been #warning you about this very moment in time, for the past decade.
With 3 #albums to date, #processionals across the #US, #podcasts, interviews, #vlogs, and #lessons; weve laid out everything we can before heading into such a battle, & were working on putting out more of these things for you to use on your #pilgrammages within & without.
However, we know how daunting such information and sensations can be; so we'd like to extend TO ALL INITIATES, THAT ARE IN NEED OF #COUNSELING (IN REGARDS TO THE MATTERS OF THE #SPIRIT)--PLEASE DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK.

#zealAndArdor published this picture on their Facebook.

We expect great things, musically and politically >
> if you don't know them, Zeal and Ardor is an "avant-garde #blackmetal" project by these guys. Yet, avant-garde black metal is quite reductive as a definition >
> the music is actually a mix of #AfricanAmericanSpiritual and #BlackMetal. Now, the project has started when Manuel Gagneux, engaged in a discussion on 4chan, was told by 2 users to fuse "black metal", with "nigger music" >

IMHO, the aforementioned five persons are probably the most brilliant musicians in #extrememetal.
Alex is obviously a geek. If he cut his hair short, he would probably look like a lawyer lol
Anyway, he talks in a highly logical fashion and did the best job conceptualizing #deathmetal -- it's simply horror movies rendered into music. He's also the main creative driver in CC.
Fenriz, tho he briefly flirted w anti-Semitism due to "mistakes of youth", was smart enough to distance from far-right politics while Varg was getting into it. And he really knows his stuff, making Transilvanian Hunger—#blackmetal stripped down to its bare essence—all by himself.

One distinct feature of #USBM is its utter lack of nationalistic elements. European #blackmetal bands sing a lot about their pre-Christian national mythologies and/or even infuse their music with a dose of 19th-century Romantic nationalism.
But I have yet to hear a USBM band sing about the Land of the Brave, Home of the Free, etc. Instead, I've heard Panopticon sing about the history of labor struggle in Kentucky, and Wolves in the Throne Room is philosophically closer to 1960s hippies than Norwegian BMers.
The reason, I think, is because the US has never been a nation-state and doesn't really have a national mythology. One of the strengths of black metal is its ability to localize, and we have all seen how USBM bands localize differently than their European counterparts.
