In contexts other than ABA, the process which behaviour analysts call 'pairing and/or developing rapport' is called 'grooming'.
Does anyone perhaps have a terminology map that explains ABA terms (such as "creating a positive reinforcement inventory") in a way that would help someone familiar with grooming better understand the rationale behind the steps in ABA?

Asking #BehaviorTwitter: What is the correct definition of ABA and who provides this authoritative answer? I have this from the North Dakota Autism Center site:
"Applied Behavior Analysis is a science devoted to understanding behavior in order to change socially significant behavior to a meaningful degree. Socially significant behavior are behaviors that can improve the life experience of an individual."

As abuse survivors, other autistic supporters, parents of ABA/PBS survivors and ex-ABA professionals in the UK, US and other countries, we've worked for several years with BCBAs and other ABA professionals who had begun to feel that they needed to do better for their clients. 🧵
Conversations on Twitter during the past two days have revealed how many ABA professionals remain blissfully unaware of the extent of the corruption in their own industry, and the abuse pipelines which many are inadvertently serving.

Hey #BehaviorTwitter as we start Autism Awareness month (thank you @autismspeaks) I wanted to share some thoughts. We will see many people posting something along the line of "we don't want awareness, we want acceptance and accommodation."

Well, without awareness of the disorder there would be no possibility of acceptance and accommodation (A&A). A&A are critically important and as practicing behavior analysts we should all be striving for, promoting, and fostering A&A. Not just with respect to autism.

When @autismspeaks (AS) started, there was not much awareness in the lay public of autism. AS changed that and we, as a profession and as a society, owe a debt of gratitude to AS for that campaign. There are many aims that AS has and another one has been advocacy.
