The previous thread outlined how the analysis done by #EMA and #MHRA to detect an increase in the incidence of #BloodClots after AZ was crap because they forgot they were dealing with vaccine reporting (reports filed *if* someone suspects vax link) and…

So they ended up comparing a huge baseline rate to the tiny number of clots that actually got reported to them and now they think the AZ vaccine reduces the risk of blood clots by 98%

17 year old "started complaining of severe chest pain three days after his second dose. It worsened on the fourth day...they ran blood work and did an X-ray and discovered he had pericarditis"(inflammation of lining outside the heart).

Thanks to the @CEPIvaccines @WHO @EuWHOEurope #Covax and others, 24,000 doses of #AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in 🇲🇪 last week, and this is just fantastic! But as in other European countries, there is a lot of hesitancy and fear related to this vaccine. 👇🏻 (🧵)
The ministry of health @MinZdravlja made the #AstraZeneca vaccine available to all 65+ old citizens, and this is great news as they are the most vulnerable group that was not eligible for @sputnikvaccine and #Sinopharm vaccines given in previous weeks to people 70+ 👇🏻
The main fear from what I understand is related to the inconsistent recommendations about the appropriate target groups and recent reports of #thrombotic events recorded in several EU countries now. Let’s address the issues one by one 👇🏻

We now have 3 #COVID19 vaccines, but with that there are discussions re: "Which one is the best vaccine for me?"
Docs say "the best vaccine, is the one in your arm".

But AstraZeneca is only ~62% effective against COVID? That's not good enough, right?

1 year ago, we would NOT have thought we would be in this place now.
It's a testament to a concerted global commitment to scientific excellence, that we have these available to us now.

#Mkhize: [Thread] We want to use the best #CovidVaccine for SA. The #501YV2 variant has impacted on the efficacy of jabs. The results showing the impact on the #astrazenecavaccine only became available on Fri. We now know it doesn't prevent mild/moderate #COVID19 disease in SA.
#Mkhize: Government's process of procuring the #AstraZenecaVaccine started before the new results on lack of efficacy in South Africa became available.
#Mkhize: The public has concerns about the expiry date of the #AstraZenecaVaccine. The vaccine has not expired yet. The doses would have been used up by the April expiry date with our original #VaccineforSouthAfrica roll-out strategy.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca study wasn't designed to determine whether the vaccine protects against severe #COVID19 disease or not. Rather, it looked at mild to moderate disease.
Those who develop severe disease are the ones who will end up in hospital or die - it's important that vaccines protect against severe disease. But our study only looked at if the vaccine protects against mild and moderate #COVID19 disease.
