80% of our 9,000 artworks are on display - a high percentage compared to many museums. We do rotate the works on display - some are fragile and can only be displayed for short periods.

💬Why does Parliament have curators? ❓
UK Parliament holds important historic collections that have built up over centuries. We have a duty of care for these objects and our professionals ensure they are preserved for future generations. The first curator was appointed in 1853, and there have been curators ever since.
Dr Mari Takayanagi is Senior Archivist in the Parliamentary Archives and Co-Curator for ‘Voice and Vote: Women’s Place in Parliament’. Mari has worked in Parliament since 2000 and completed her PhD on Parliament and women in 2012. #AskACurator

This watercolour from 1821 is on loan from our friends @ShakespeareBT. Discovered by a researcher via @Twitter a few years ago. It shows the view from the Ventilator, an octagonal structure in the attic space above the @HouseofCommons. Can you guess what it was for? #AskACurator
Dr James Ford is the Assistant Curator in a small team caring for the Parliamentary Art Collection. He wrote his PhD on the art and architecture of the Houses of Parliament. James has worked in the Curator’s Office for seven years. #AskACurator

Meet Emma Traherne, Collections Manager for Historic Furniture and Decorative Arts. Emma studied Archaeology and Museum Studies at university and worked in a variety of museums, big and small, before joining Parliament in 2015. #AskACurator
