...

We will enhance the covidfund.africa platform with a digital dashboard that tracks health sector resources.

#Account4COVID
We will mobilise 1.7m Africans to demand health sector accountability, demystify issues regarding vaccine delivery to at least 850,000 Africans & organise capacity building sessions for over 100 CSOs on prioritising vulnerable communities regarding health sector advocacy.

#CTAP
We will also build an alliance with at least 1000 community leaders and cultural influencers, facilitate dialogue sessions between CSOs and the government and expand our communication bandwidth with the civil society and other sectoral partners, among others.

ICYMI: Last week, we hosted CSOs from Delta, Enugu, Kaduna and Sokoto to discuss COVID-19 fund management in their states from 2020 to date.

Findings from the engagement revealed gross mismanagement of funds and diversion of palliatives for political purposes👇 #Account4COVID ImageImageImageImage
For instance, N50.13bn was earmarked for COVID-19 response in the Delta State 2020 budget, but only N4.92bn was spent.

Also, the Enugu State PHCDA got zero out of the N1.45bn allocated to it for CAPEX according to the 2020 Financial Statement of the OAG of Enugu State. ImageImageImageImage
Sokoto received N1.17bn as donations from different sources. However, the state govt allocated only N525.47m to COVID-19 related initiatives.

Kaduna state spent just N9.29bn out of its N156.86bn budget for COVID-19 response. #Account4COVID ImageImage

DID YOU KNOW?

Nigeria got $5.6bn from foreign/domestic donors to combat the #COVID19 crisis. Pres @Mbuhari also released N2.3trn stimulus package to cushion the economic effects of the pandemic on small businesses and vulnerable groups.

How were these funds managed?

#THREAD
Findings have shown that only less than 10% of the funds have been accounted for. Fact? The flow of funds makes corruption and emergencies feed off each other, as the need for urgency in disbursing aid or stimulus packages form a perfect avenue for massive corruption.
Unfortunately, corruption and the lack of transparency in the allocation of resources weakens the efficiency of #COVID191 crisis responses & the overall management of the pandemic. To help the situation, we've been tracking funds disbursement & utilization in 7 African countries.
