Interestingly, 2020 saw a switch in #AlShabaab IED attack methodology, far fewer large VBIEDs, to more smaller Person-Borne PBIEDs in Banadir.
1/ The UN🇺🇳 & @_AfricanUnion🟩 have now both conducted "independent" assessments of how best to provide international support to #Somalia🇸🇴 after 2021. The 🇺🇳 team recommended continuing with a reconfigured @amisomsomalia, the AU🟩 team a hybrid AU-UN multidimensional mission.
2/ The AU🟩 team's envisaged AU-led-UN-hybrid mission (AU-UNMIS) would be 50% police (IPOs + FPUs), 35% military, 15% civilian personnel with expanded political powers for the head (Joint🇺🇳🟩 Special Representative). Overall personnel numbers r unspecified.
1/ The AU PSC is mad at the UN🇺🇳 for conducting an independent review of security options for stabilizing #Somalia🇸🇴 which made recommendations for reconfiguring #AMISOM peaceau.org/en/article/com…
2/ So now the AU PSC is establishing its own AU-led independent assessment to figure out how to reconfigure @amisomsomalia peaceau.org/en/article/com…
3/ Meanwhile, neither the UNSC nor the AU PSC really control what #AMISOM’s key TCCs do in the field... And it’s not a good sign if they can’t even agree on how to do an independent assessment of the situation... 🙁

Ethiopian troops have killed 11 civilians and one member of parliament during elections in #Baidoa. They have sent a plane full of soldiers to try and intervene in #Kismayo during elections. How is this country a contributing member of a 'peace-keeping' mission in #Somalia?!!!!
#AMISOM is discredited and now directly and openly involved in Somalia politics and internal affairs!! Exit plan needed and urgently. They went from a 'peace-keeping' mission to a threat to stability of Somalia!!!

In two separate incidents in Lower Shabelle region, #AMISOM troops have killed more than eight #AlShabaab fighters, including a top commander.
The commander, a chief finance controller of #AlShabaab and head of the Zakat tax collection in Lower Shabelle region, was killed on Monday after #AMISOM troops ambushed a venue of an #AlShabaab meeting in Bariire.
The incident in Bariire comes after a botched probe attack by #AlShabaab on an #AMISOM Forward Operating Base (FOB) at kilometre 50, on Sunday, in which seven militants were killed and a technical vehicle destroyed.
